Supporting You Through the Making Tax Digital Transition

At Turas Accountants, we understand that changes in your business are not always easy. It can feel uncertain, overwhelming, and sometimes downright stressful. We want you to know that you are not alone. If the transition to Making Tax Digital (MTD) is weighing on your mind, we are here to help. Not just as accountants, but as partners in your business journey, ready to guide and support you through it all.

A New Era for Tax, and It’s Okay to Feel Uncertain

Making Tax Digital marks a major shift in how businesses manage their tax responsibilities. HMRC is aiming to make tax administration more efficient and more accurate by requiring digital record-keeping and digital submissions using compatible software.

For many of our clients, this shift brings mixed emotions. Some feel excited about the potential benefits, while others are anxious about what it means for their day-to-day operations. If you are one of the many business owners feeling unsure, that is completely understandable. You have worked hard to build your business, and now you are being asked to change how you manage something as crucial as your finances.

Whether you are self-employed and run a small business, or manage a growing enterprise, this transition can feel like one more task on an already full plate.

You May Have Already Heard from HMRC

If you have received a letter from HMRC recently, you are not alone. Over the past few months, HMRC has begun writing to business owners across the UK to explain what is coming with Making Tax Digital. These letters include important information about when the changes will apply to you, what is required, and how to start preparing.

We know that receiving a formal letter from HMRC can be unsettling. It may even raise more questions than it answers. That is where we come in. If you have received one of these letters and are feeling unsure about what it means, please bring it to us. We will sit down with you, explain everything in language you will understand, and help you work out your next steps with confidence.

We Are Not Just Number Crunchers. We Are Your Team.

At Turas, we chose our name carefully. “Turas” is an Irish word that means “journey,” and we believe that reflects how we work with our clients. We do not just handle tax returns. We walk the road with you.

Over the years, we have built strong relationships with businesses across Telford and beyond. We have stood beside you during challenges, cheered you on during victories, and supported you through the ups and downs of business life. This next step into digital tax is no different. We are right here, ready to help you move forward with clarity and peace of mind.

What Is Making Tax Digital?

If the details still feel unclear, here is a simple overview:

MTD for VAT: If your business earns over the VAT threshold (currently £90,000), you should already be using digital software to keep records and submit VAT returns. HMRC is now expanding this to include all VAT-registered businesses, even if they are below the threshold.

MTD for Income Tax Self Assessment (ITSA): From April 2026, MTD will apply to self-employed individuals and landlords earning over £50,000. From April 2027, it will extend to those earning over £30,000, and from April 2028 it will be applied to those with a turnover above £20,000

MTD for Corporation Tax has now been cancelled by HMRC.

What this means is that businesses must start using approved software to keep digital financial records and send tax data directly to HMRC. Paper records and spreadsheets will no longer be enough.
