10 reasons to visit Telford

1 – Shopping Centre

If you like to shop, Telford town centre is the place for you. The main shopping centre is home to a huge amount of shops ranging from high end fashion to more affordable high street alternatives. Whether you like to shop for clothing, jewellery, homeware, beauty products and more, there is something for you. It’s great for a rainy day out too as it’s all undercover, with plenty of car parking options within a short walk away.

2 – Telford Town Park

Telford town park is an award winning green space in the heart of the town centre. With a mixture of walking trails, ponds, play areas, mini golf, and fishing, there is something for the whole family to enjoy. It is the perfect spot to enjoy a picnic on a summer’s day.

3 – Food & Drink

Telford boasts a huge range of restaurants, bars, cafes and pubs. There is something for all budgets, tastes and dietary requirements. From the big chains such as Toby Carvery, Subway, Nandos and Wagamama to the more quirky country style pubs, you are bound to find somewhere that you will enjoy.

4 – Ironbridge

Ironbridge is a large village near Telford, and is said to have been the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. The famous Iron Bridge, which the village takes it’s name after, was built in 1779 by Abraham Darby III is now well recognised as a symbol of the Industrial Revolution.

5 – Ice Rink

Telford Ice Rink has been open since 1984 and has been popular ever since. It is one of the UK’s favourite ice rinks with play sessions as well as sports fixtures that are held there regularly.

6 – Countryside walks

The area around Telford has some beautiful countryside, and plenty of places to get out and about for a walk or bike ride. One of the most common and locally famous walking destinations is The Wrekin which is located 5 miles (8km) away from Telford town centre. The Wrekin is a large hill, which rises to 1,335 feet above sea level. It provides beautiful panoramic views of the Shropshire countryside.

7 – Family Friendly Days Out

There are so many family friendly days out within an hour’s travel of Telford, and even some in the heart of Telford itself. These include Hoo Zoo & Dinosaur World, and two attractions based in the town park which are Exotic Zoo and Wonderland. These are all fantastic days out for young children.

8 – RAF Museum Midlands

The RAF Museum Midlands is situated at RAF Cosford, just outside of Telford and is an operational airbase. The museum has free entry (with a small car parking charge) and is home to a huge array of military aircraft. It is an educational and fun day out for all the family.

9 – Blists Hill

A very popular day out in Telford is Blists Hill Victorian Town. It is liking taking a step back in time, as the whole attraction is set up as a small Victorian town would have been. You are encouraged to exchange modern money into shillings, and are able to spend them at the shops within the historical village. It is truly an immersive historial experience.

10 – Comic Con

Twice a year, Telford hosts the Wales Comic Con which sees fans of comic books, superhero films and sci-fi come together for a huge convention. Celebrities also make guest appearances, enabling fans to meet them and listen to live interviews. The event is very popular and brings a great amount of tourism to Telford town centre.
